INEC plans to check vote-buying, lauds ECES on credible polls

Voters

• 2019 elections may be bloody, cleric warns Buhari
• Abe denounces violence in Rivers politics

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that polling booths will henceforth be positioned in a way to make it difficult for people to see how voters cast their votes during elections. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Anambra State, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, said the measure was to make it impossible for anyone to know who a voter voted for.

Orji, who described vote-buying as another big threat to democracy that needed everyone to join hands with INEC to eradicate, said: “INEC cannot check the problem of vote-buying alone. It is a crime that security agents, members of the public who collect the money and politicians who buy the votes must come together to tackle.”The INEC chief also called on eligible persons who are yet to register in the on-going continuous voter’s registration in Anambra to do so before the August 17, 2018 deadline.

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Chairman of INEC, Prof. Muhammad Kuna, has lauded the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) for its continuous support in election affairs in Nigeria to enable her achieve credible, transparent, free and fair gubernatorial and presidential elections next year.Kuna, who spoke yesterday in Ede, Osun State, during a three-day workshop organised by ECES in conjunction with INEC for electoral officers, heads of departments and assistant electoral officers ahead of the September 22 governorship election in the state, urged the stakeholders to be pro-active to achieve laudable objectives during the election.

He said the Centre had demonstrated keen interest and in the forefront of providing the necessary facilities, training, materials and books for the success of previous elections in the country.

In another development, an Ekiti-based renowned cleric, Prophet Olu Alo, has said that the greatest challenge confronting the nation ahead of 2019 is insecurity. He, therefore, warned President Muhammadu Buhari that next year’s general elections might involve killings if he fails to accord the nation’s security priority attention.

Alo, who spoke during the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) yearly spiritual programme at Erio-Ekiti Mountain yesterday, urged the President to tackle killings by herdsmen in particular. The cleric, who lamented that dastardly acts are now common among politicians, said: “Some politicians are desperate and blood-sucking leaders.”

Besides, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has denounced a resort to gun violence ahead of the party’s primaries.Abe, who tasked the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to launch an investigation into the attack on a factional APC secretariat that was vandalised by suspected party thugs at the weekend, said last Saturday’s vandalisation of the party’s new secretariat by hoodlums and the whole idea of bringing guns into politics were to intimidate people and create fear in the minds of political rivals.

However, the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside, has dismissed insinuation that the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, authorised the attack on the secretariat. Peterside said while it was not right for some aggrieved members to open a parallel office, it was even more heinous for anyone to attack the secretariat. According to him, Amaechi will never support anyone to take laws into their hands.

NYSC: What Ugwuanyi told corp members

Governor of Enugu Dtate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that would participate in the conduct of the 2019 general elections to be guided by national interest.

Ugwuanyi gave the advice on Monday in Enugu during the closing ceremony of 2018 Batch ‘B’ orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Josef Udedi, said that the call became necessary following the increasing and critical roles of corps members in the electoral process.

“The 2019 general election is fast approaching and corps members, as usual, will play vital roles in making the exercise successful as electoral umpires.

“I urge you not to be partisan but to acquit yourselves creditably in order to contribute positively to the smooth electoral system in the nation.

“The actions of the corps members should be anchored on the objectives of the scheme among which he said was to promote unity among the diverse nationalities in the country.

“I, therefore, charge you to pursue the realisation of this goal in practical terms by regarding your host communities as your homes by joining to uplift them.

“Your primary assignment will certainly be challenging as you will be posted to four key sectors of the state economy where your services will be mostly needed.
I have no doubt that the training you received had prepared you adequately.

“It is my belief that your initial apprehension and prejudices have given way for better understanding of the diverse cultures and nationalities that make up this country,” he said.

He, however, cautioned them against unnecessary journeys, adding that many lives had been lost in the process.

“You should, therefore, avoid embarking on frequent travels except when absolutely necessary.“

The Nigeria First lady Belongs In My Kitchen, She Should Stay Out Of Politics" Says Buhari Insists

President Muhammadu insists the place of his wife, Aisha, is in the kitchen.
On Friday, Buhari said his wife belonged in the kitchen, and“the other room,”apparently a euphemism for the bedroom.

He had said this at a press conference after a closed-door meeting, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in response to an interview Aisha granted the BBC, where she said that his government had been hijacked.

In the interview, Aisha had also said that she might not support her husband under the present circumstances if he seeks re-election in 2019.

“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but my wife belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.” Buhari had said.

“It is not easy to do away with opposition or people who did not follow you along your campaign trail. I hope my wife will remember that I was on the field for 12 years; I tried three times, the fourth time I managed to succeed. And
I ended up the first three times in the Nigerian Supreme Court, so I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition and I succeeded.

“It is not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition party or to participate in the government.”

In response to a backlash from the statement, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said the president was only joking.

But in an interview with DW’s Phil g@yle, Buhari reiterated his position, saying the function of his wife was to take care of his home:

DW: Recently your wife criticised your choices for top jobs, and you responded by saying “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room.”
What did you mean by that, sir?

Buhari: I am sure you have a house. … You know where your kitchen is, you know where your living room is, and I believe your wife looks after all of that, even if she is working.

DW: That is your wife’s function?

Buhari: Yes, to look after me.

DW: And she should stay out of politics?

Buhari: I think so.

Zambian Deputy Mayor Who Sent Nudde ‘Selfie’ To WhatsApp Group Gets Suspended

Zambian ruling party, Patriotic Front PF, has suspended its Mufulira deputy mayor and district chairlady Beatrice Kapansa for sending her half Nakked picture to a PF WhatsApp group. She shocked social media users on Sunday, October 9, 2016, after flaunting her B.reasts in the forum.
The municipal leader, who is in her late 50s, added a caption to her picture: ” JUST RELAXING IN BED.”
Following the scandal, PF Copperbelt chairman Steven Kainga said in an interview yesterday that the incident was extremely embarrassing and the ruling party had distanced itself from Kapansa’s actions.
“The party has further given Ms Kapansa a period in which to exculpate herself and show cause as to why further disciplinary actions should not be taken in line with the party disciplinary code. Ms Kapansa’s actions were embarrassing not only to the party but also to the women folk. So she stands suspended,” said Kainga who further said this should serve as a warning to other leaders on their conduct as they represented not only themselves but the party as a whole.

Twins burnt to death in Ogun petrol fire

Tragedy struck in Gaun community, in the Magboro area of Ogun State, after two children, Taiye and Kehinde Oluwasegun, were burnt to death in an inferno that gutted their parents’ bungalow on Tuesday.
Sammyworldnews learnt that the incident happened around 8pm while the family was preparing to have dinner.
Our correspondent gathered that the first born of the family, Iyanu, had tripped over a jerrycan of fuel, which also spilled some of its content in the parlour.
While the mother mopped the spillage, the fuel was said to have flowed to a lantern in the house, which triggered an explosion.
Residents, who were alerted by calls for help, reportedly rescued Iyanu; the second child, Korede; and their parents.
However, the twin children, aged three, were burnt to death.
When our correspondent visited the area on Wednesday, he observed that everything in the house was burnt as smoke still billowed from burnt property in the three-bedroomed bungalow.
Korede, six, who sustained burns in the leg, told PUNCH Metro that his father,  Aina, was about taking their generator outside when his sister fell.
He said, “My daddy has two generators. We use the big one to pump water, while the small one is for the house.
“My daddy had put the small one in the room to pour petrol into it before taking it to the cage that was outside. My mummy was preparing food in the kitchen that time.
“My sister, who didn’t know there was a jerrycan on the floor, tripped over it. My mum then took the mop to clean spilled petrol. She was doing that when the fire started. There were six of us in the house: my dad and mum, my sister, the twins and me.”
Our correspondent observed that there was no motorable road in the community and the area was connected to the rest of Magboro by a stretch of rickety bamboo bridge.
A motorcyclist in the area, who did not identify himself, said the survivors were helped by residents to cross the bridge.
He said, “It was a difficult task getting the survivors to the hospital. We had to carry them on our backs with their burns.
“The woman kept asking for her twins, while the husband kept lamenting that he lost everything to the fire.”
Sammyworldnews visited Perfect Joy Hospital where three members of the family were taken to for treatment.
Our correspondent observed that Aina, a carpenter, suffered severe burns in his legs, hands, face and chest, while his wife, Abosede, a teacher, suffered burns in both legs.
It was learnt that she had yet to be informed that the twins were dead.
A relative of the victims, Pastor Moses Igbinadolor, said Iyanu was in another hospital, adding that she sustained serious burns.
He lamented the lack of basic amenities in the community, saying it made the rescue difficult.
“We took Iyanu to another hospital and the doctor said she sustained 68 degrees burns. What, however, made the case worse was that we couldn’t get across to the fire service because there is no motorable road.  The nearest police station is at Ibafo. This just shows that we don’t have a listening government. No road, no power, no water,” he said.
Our correspondent learnt that the case was not reported to the police.
The traditional ruler of Gaun community, Sumonu Seidu, said a delegation from the community had visited the victims in the hospital.
“I am aware the couple lost their twins after a fire incident,” he said.

EFCC Questions Obanikoro’s Daughter Over N800m Bank Transaction

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday drilled Shalewa Obanikoro, the daughter of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, over a transaction of N800m she allegedly made.
Investigators said that Shalewa was drilled at the Lagos office of the EFCC for several hours alongside her mother, Moroophat.

An impeccable source at the anti-graft agency said as part of investigations into the N4.7bn allegedly paid into the company account of Obanikoro’s sons – Babajide and Gbolahan – by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the commission started investigating some other members of the family.

The detective said, “Obanikoro’s wife came to our office on Friday morning as part of investigations into the N4.7bn paid into Sylvan McNamara, a company owned by her sons. During the investigation, we stumbled on the account of an oil company. We then discovered that Obanikoro’s daughter was a signatory to the account of the oil company and that millions of naira was paid into the account at different times.

“We then invited the daughter, and she came to meet us at the office. During investigations, we found out that the daughter gave a standing order to the bank that N800m should be moved into another account. We wondered why such a young girl would have access to such funds, so we started quizzing her.
“This is a whole new dimension to the case, and we will continue to investigate to find out if it is related to the arms probe or not.”

Obanikoro and his sons, who are citizens of the United States, have remained in the US for over a year.

However, the EFCC swiftly seized the US passport of Shalewa to prevent her from towing the path of her father and brothers.

The investigator said, “We were told that she was planning on travelling to the US soon, so we swiftly seized her passport because she is vital to our investigation. However, we told her to be coming from home.”

Apart from the N4.7bn arms scam rocking the Obanikoro family, it will be recalled that MOB Integrated Services Ltd, a company headed by Obanikoro’s second son, Gbolahan, was implicated by the Aigboje Imokhuede-led Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation in 2012.

The company was said to have made three transactions valued at N5, 393, 592,906.62. However, investigations revealed that the company only made one transaction valued at N3, 261,263,992.52 verified as legitimate.
The difference of over N2bn was said to have been embezzled as MOB did not make the needed oil supply.

However, sources at the commission said that after Obanikoro was appointed the Minister of State for Defence, the case was mysteriously suspended indefinitely.

The latest revelation may be the missing piece of the puzzle, detectives believe.
However, the former minister said in a statement that his wife had high blood pressure and other heart-related ailments and asked security agents not to drag her into the arms probe as she knew nothing about the case.
Obanikoro also denied media reports that his wife was arrested with incriminating evidence.

How I Spent The Cash I Got For My Election Not Anybody’s Business – Fayose Fires Back

Moments after the EFCC seized mansions belonging to Ayo Fayose, the governor has reacted. He insisted that the houses linked to him were bought legitimately.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said any property that might be linked to Fayose or his company was “bought legitimately and his properties were duly declared in his assets declaration form and sources of such funds were not illicit.”

He said since the money he got for his election was from “legitimate sources” and not from the ONSA, “how the money was spent remained his own business and not that of anyone.”

But EFCC now have video evidence of how Billions of Naira, Nigeria’s money, was moved with aircraft by Musiliu Obaniko to Fayose, hence he can’t claim the cash is legitimate. They will meet in court.

The List Of Nigerian Universities Currently On Strike Or Closed Indefinitely

It really saddens my heart when I look at the way our education system is being run in this part of the world.

Most of our higher institutions are currently on strike or closed indefinitely due to one reason or the other, to me corruption has really eaten down the roots of our system, why would our citadel of learning be the bedrock of fund mismanagement and embezzlement, why would a journey of 4 years turn to 6 years?

it seems our leaders can’t practice what they preach.

Below are the list of schools I know are currently on strike:-

♦ Kogi State University

♦ Obafemi Awolowo University

♦ Ladoke Akintola University

* Adekunle Ajasin University

This are the few universities I know, I strongly stand with my fellow students in their struggle. Together let’s use the social media to raise our voice of discomfort and pain loud for them to hear our cry.

Open up our schools and stop wasting our youthful age.

Support the trend #reopenourschools.

Nollywood Directors Decalare War Against Soft-P**n Movies

Worried by the alarming rate at which soft-p**n movies are uploaded indiscriminately on Youtube and other social media platforms in recent times, creating a serious negative impression about the country’s movie industry, some aggrieved directors have come together to stem the tide.

To arrest the ugly trend, the directors under the aegis of Nollywood Crusader Directors in a statement made available to HVP, and signed on their behalf by actor Charles Awurum and founder of Igbo film forum, comrade Eze Harris Chuma, have threatened henceforth to slam a ban on actors and actresses who feature in any s3x Internet movie.

“We have also agreed not to employ the services of the actors in any movie they are directing,” they said.

They have also called on parents to always monitor the Internet to see what their wards are doing in the name of acting.

“This is everybody’s fight. Many innocent young girls are being tricked or forced into accepting to act the indecent roles and some because of their innocence, childish brain, and hunger to become movie stars, willingly accept the roles, and even pay for it with their bodies or money. Those that have not gotten to the age of reasoning are the ones we cry for. Those above 20 years can go ahead and act their blue movies, if that is what they have agreed with their parents. They cannot be used by any concerned Nollywood Crusader directors.

“This is not in our culture, and it is not our tradition. Parents should be careful of what their children are using there phones to watch. At 4 years, most of our children have started to operate phones very well, even more than some adults. We are talking today, for the sake of tomorrow. This young actors will be mothers and fathers tomorrow, they will sit and watch the shameful acts of their parents, years past,” the statement reads. According to Eze Chuma, the group’s task force will be working with the Nigeria Police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to book. “ Any actor or actress caught in the act will be isolated and punished accordingly,” Chuma warned.

Woman Turns Into Snake During S*x With Lover In Eket Hotel, Akwa Ibom

A strange sight was witnessed in Akwa Ibom State where a woman allegedly turned into a snake during s*x with her lover in a hotel.

The story of how a woman turned into a snake while having s*x with a man inside a hotel room in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, may sound strange and rather out of this world, but a journalist based in the state, Chris Udoh, swore that it happened in real life and he was a witness to it.

According to what he reported, the middle-aged man had taken the lady he met along a road in the town, to a hotel to have s*x with her in the hotel but he met the shock of his life when the woman allegedly turned into a mammoth reptile.

Read Udoh’s story here:
“The incident took place on Friday when the man took the lady to a three Star hotel in Eket metropolis (name of hotel withheld).

The man checked in with the light complexion woman apparently in her mid-thirties to have a nice time but it turned out to be his worse nightmare.

Upon arriving the hotel, the pair sat at the bush bar and ordered for fresh fish pepper soup. According to the man, the lady opted for just drinks as she told him that she doesn’t eat sea foods. Instead, she opted for a bottle of red wine.

After having few bottles of drinks, the couple retired to their room. While in there, the man said he observed that she took so much time in the rest room which warranted him to knock on the door frequently, but she kept answering that she will soon be through.

According to the man, when she finally came out, she told him not to touch her head while they made love, telling him that she had a severe headache and suggested that the red wine may have caused it.

The man said that when they started having s*x, the lady started wriggling her body on the bed like a snake but he admitted that he didn’t give serious thought to it ‘as he was enjoying the action.’

The man who is in his mid-forties, said as soon as he had his orgasm and got up from her body, he noticed that her entire body was fast changing to a snake.

He said he was overwhelmed by fear and jumped out of the room Unclad and raised an alarm which attracted both the hotel managers and others patrons to rush to his room.

When the management of the hotel made their way into the room, the lady was still half snake and half human, wriggling on the bed, but the hotel manager quickly rushed out to inform the police.”

“They fastened the lock on the door of the room and instructed every one to keep off. Upon return, the lady had disappeared.

The management handed over the man who brought the lady to their facility to the police from the Ukwa Police Division.”
