Musician, Davido has reacted to the wedding between Adekunle Gold and Simisola Ogunleye.

Simi and Adekunle tied the knot traditionally yesterday at Eko Atlantic.

This is coming after Simi and Adekunle Gold’s continuous denial of their relationship left fans confused until a picture showing them kissing during her sold-out Lagos concert was released few weeks ago.

Speculations intensified in 2016 when they released the joint album, ‘Chemistry’ with controversial and intimate cover art.

Reacting to the news, singer, Davido wished the newly wed couple well as he wrote: “May your UNION LAST FOREVER OOO!!!?”

ASUU strike: NANS blasts lecturers after agreement with FG

Following the agreement between Federal Government and lecturers, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend the ongoing strike.

On Monday, January 7, 2019, the Federal Government reached an agreement with ASUU leaders in a meeting held in Abuja.

According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who was also at the meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N20billion, to offset the outstanding arrears of the 2009 to 2012 verified earnings in the universities.

Ngige added that earned allowances will be released to ASUU as soon as the process is completed.

Despite the agreement between both parties, ASUU president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, while speaking with journalist after the meeting said the strike would not be called off.

Ogunyemi said the strike could only be called off after the union’s NEC meeting. He however, did not state when the meeting will hold.

NANS has now urged ASUU to call off the strike having reached an agreement with the government.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by the NANS president, Comrade Bamidele Akpan, the student body accused the lecturers of not pursuing the interest of Nigerian students.

The statement reads in part:

“We urge our members and the general public to know that ASUU do not pursue our collective interest as they claim and desist from subscribing to blackmail and propaganda on the leadership of NANS. Now that both Federal Government and ASUU have resumed negotiation and concessional approval made by the FG, the general public should prevail on ASUU to go back to the classroom in the interest of the country.

“No amount of blackmail and propaganda by ASUU and some hardliners will make me lose focus as President of NANS. You must have seen the name dropping and castigation on main stream and social media. I shall continue to discharge my duties in the best interest of Nigerian students. In the next few days there must be visible result which will get our members back to classroom.

“Consequent upon our (NANS) meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, he directed TETFUND to release funds to Tertiary Institutions and further instructed the Federal Ministry of Education/Labour to immediately resume negotiation with ASUU. This brought about the meeting with ASUU yesterday, 7th January, 2019 at the Federal Ministry of Labour where for the first time ASUU and FG reached a compromise.

“To this extent, NANS is happy that the two weeks ultimatum/honoring the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari have started yielding visible results which of course is to the advantage of our suffering members and our parents.”

ASUU speaks on calling off strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said it was not in a position to determine whether an end to its ongoing strike is in sight.
ASUU Chairman, University of Abuja chapter, Dr. Ben Ugheoke, said this on Wednesday in an interview with DAILY POST in Abuja. Recall that the lecturers, penultimate week embarked on industrial action over the failures of the Federal Government to implement its part of the agreement it signed with the union towards ensuring proper funding of the universities, the payment of full salaries by state-owned universities, and the payment of earned academic allowances, among others. Speaking, Dr. Ugheoke explained that the onus lay with the Federal Government to call ASUU to the negotiation table with a view to bringing an end to the strike.

“I can’t tell if an end to the strike is in sight. If the Federal Government calls us for negotiations, we are not against that. But, we are not in the government’s position,” he said. On whether his chapter of the union had plans of pulling out of the ongoing industrial action, he said: “The strike is national. Whatever ASUU’s NEC (National Executive Council) directs, that’s what UNIABUJA chapter follows.” Meanwhile, ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has said the union was ready to commence negotiations with the government over the ongoing strike.
Ogunyemi said a meeting with the Federal Government delegation has been scheduled for Thursday, one o’clock at the instance of the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

Sevilla hold talks over Morata loan deal

Sevilla have held preliminary talks with the agent of Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata as they look to sign the Spain international on loan until the end of the season.
Goal understands that Morata's representative, Juanma Lopez, met with the Liga club recently in a bid to earn his client a move back to his homeland.
Sevilla are willing to pay the entirety of Morata's £140,000-a-week wages to bring him to Andalusia as they aim to continue their unlikely title bid.

Pablo Machin's side currently sit third in the Liga table, seven points behind leaders Barcelona, and remain in contention to win a fourth Europa League title in six seasons.
Chelsea are unwilling to let him leave Stamford Bridge unless they can secure a replacement themselves during the January window.
Morata signed for the Blues from Real Madrid in a deal worth an initial £58 million in the summer of 2017, but the 25-year-old has struggled for consistency in front of goal.
In total he has scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the west London outfit - nine of those goals coming this season - with his place in Maurizio Sarri's side far from assured.
Eden Hazard has been prefered to him in recent weeks as Sarri introduced a false nine into his formation while Olivier Giroud has also provided competition for Morata over the last 12 months.

And his lack of celebration after scoring two goals against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Saturday has seen some suggest he would rather be anywhere else than Chelsea.

"I don't know [if he is happy]," Sarri said on Tuesday ahead of his side's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham. "I hope so but I don't know,"
"It is more important to score than celebrate. He scored two goals in the last match, in the season he has nine.
"In his best season at Madrid he scored 20 goals, so he will be able to have a very good second part of the season and he will try to reach his best."
Quite where Morata would fit into the pecking order at Sevilla is unknown, with Wissam Ben Yedder and Andre Silva having netted 24 goals between them in all competitions this season.
The latter's form, however, has dropped off in recent weeks after a fast start following his loan arrival from AC Milan, and with Luis Muriel having left for Fiorentina already in the winter window, Morata could yet earn a starting berth should he move to the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Chelsea's search for a replacement will not see them resurrect their interest in Milan's Gonzalo Higuain, with the Blues deciding against pursuing the deal after it was deemed too complicated by the club's hierarchy.
Bournemouth's top scorer Callum Wilson is an option , though the Cherries are understood to be standing firm in not selling the England international.
And while with more than three weeks of the window still left and a number of possibilities still to emerge, Morata could yet be made to wait before finding out his fate over the next month.
